Re: How many Actually Voted - 2010 AGM

I am sure that it is hard work running an International Class Association and very disappointing for those immediately involved when there is such a low vote. However, without wishing to upset the Executive (again) I do feel that the wrong conclusion is being drawn here. The vote that has recently t...

Re: 2011 WC West Kirby

Peter and all potential WC West Kirby competitors, The preliminary Notice of Race has been prepared and is with IOMICA for approval prior to release. We anticipate that the NOR will be published any day soon and it should have all the information you will need to plan for the event. There will also ...

Re: IOMICA Fees

Whilst the Championship fee is a considerable element of cost for any competitor it is important to consider the event costs in context. From the competitor perspective he/she will be looking for value for money and to be reasonably certain what the entry fee will include for the week. For all entra...

Re: IOMICA Fees

David, Many thanks for the response and explanation of the budget. I am sure that it must be a bit of a nightmare pulling the information together for the accounts of this sort of organisation. I don't envy you the task! Neil Armstrong does have a good point. And, a giant leap for IOMICA would be to...

Re: IOMICA Fees

It is very interesting to see Neil Armstrongs (real name Apollo One!) questions and the lack of specific replies on the past accounts. If as Roy L comments the total cost of these events far exceed the income does that mean that previous events have been excused the IOMICA levy? I supose that the an...

Olivier,

Just to bring this thread back on track are you able to give a little more detail about this venue please. For example, where is the sailing water at Pierrelatte?

Rule Simplification

Several recent posts have called for the IOM rules to be simplified but we know that, if we want to remain an International and recognised ISAF class our rules have to be written in "Isafspeak" and linked to the definitions in ISAF's Equipment Rules of Sailing. But, even if you are pretty conversant...

Bruce, I have been trying to see how these rule amendments for Barbados fit into the existing rules but think the numbering may be incorrect or transposed for the bits about "tabling" and "self coloured ply". These should I think relate to G3.1 and G4.1 and not G1.3 and G1.4. and the self coloured p...

Yes, Kim was very helpful and I am now fully sorted. It was just getting through to her by phone that I found difficult and I was not getting response to emails. She has now circulated a new email to all those that have contacted her. What I really needed to check was whether our luggage could be "f...

Thanks for the information and I have now managed to get through to Kim Rawlins by phone. For anybody else trying to phone her extension number is 254 which saves getting "lost" in the call centre.

Is anybody else having difficulty contacting Kim Rawlins at Virgin to arrange flights. All I get when I phone is the Caribean call centre and no knowledge of Kim. She has not answered my last email so I don't know where I stand with the booking. Does anybody have a telephone extension for her so I c...

Yes but, no but, yes but! In effect the concept of a batten pocket to locate a batten that can be interchanged or adjusted has never (to the best of my knowledge) been used on an IOM. So it begs the question why do we refer to a batten pocket at all - because once we do it needs definition. To my mi...

The issue of batten pockets is interesting. On full size sails pockets are used so that the tension on the batten can be adjusted. The idea (and the inference of the word pocket) is that the batten is removeable, can be changed for a stiffer one or the tension adjusted. On full size sails the pocket...

Like Lester I feel that there are too many variables to the luff round and to the profile of the leech for a template to be of more than limited use for check measuring sails at an event. It is unlikely that professional sail makers will use the max leech and luff lengths for a start because an allo...

Whilst on the topic of sail making and measurement I would like to raise the difficulty, to a newcomer of identifying the "sail measurement points" on the sail plan. These are essentially one design sails so this should be reasonably easy. However I don't believe it is not possible to identify these...

Yes, thanks Andy that's the useful sail measurement matrix and diagram I was referring to.

Now hands up all those people who have kept this from the old rules so they can use it for sailmaking and measurement. Come on now don't be shy. And, why have these useful bits been ditched?

A copy of the section of the old rules which, including the diagram and matrix, extended to only 7 pages is on its way by email. These rules were effective from 1.6.1995. 8)

Sail Measurement Diagram and Measurement matrix

As a matter of interest why did the current rules ditch the measurement diagram and matrix of key sail/rig measurements included in the early version of the rules? In essence whilst the IOM hull and appendiges are development class the rig and sails are one design within strict dimensions. On that b...
