Re: fastening the front track to the deck

From the front position for the No.1 rig, No.3 eyelet would be approx 60mm rearwards from there. Have you considered not using a deck track, and just screw 3 eyebolts into the deck instead? It will lighter, neater and easier. I have found that the tracks adjustments can loosen and move under load in...

Re: A Very Sad Day

I never managed to meet Geoff, but I understand the profound effect he had on our sport, both on and off the water.

We have lost one of the good guys....

RIP Geoff....

Re: use of carbon fibre to control the rudder?

I wouldn't bother with a push-pull arrangement, a single arm will be fine. The rudder in an IOM doesn't come under very big loads. As you can see, a 1.6 mm stainless steel wire suffices for many IOM designs worldwide, so a single carbon (or fibreglass) rod will be fine..... I use a single carbon rod...

Re: winch or arm servo?

More than enough power! Anything over 4kg is strong enough. I too like digital servos for their self centering resolution, and speed. I use a Hitec 5485 HB for all the classes I sail. One thing you may find if running an RMG winch alongside that servo is that the winch may jitter after a big rudder ...

Re: Second boat - which design?

Yep, the Noux 2 is a great little boat. I must say that it is particularly quick in light to mid No.1 suit conditions, and generally good all round performer. I race against one regularly. My only advice ( and this is my opinion only) would be to place the keel 10mm or so further forward in the boat...

Re: Second boat - which design?

In my opinion, don't judge designs solely on their overall beam width. The waterline beam is what you want to know.... For example, a narrow beam boat of 185mm may still have a marginally narrower beam at water level, due to its vertical like topsides. My Obsession has a 230 mm gunwhale beam, but na...

Re: Rigg A Bad design??

Hi Sven, I also find it sad that people don't share their information. :( We believe that if EVERYONE is fast, then we all become better racers. :D I have also found that the best sailors are always the most helpful with advice. That's why I always as them the questions I have (Craig Smith, Paul Jon...

Re: Rigg A Bad design??

I don't think there is any problem with the masts at present. Aluminium masts are very cheap, and prebend is something easily done at home. As well as sailing, I believe rig construction and setting is also part of the sport. For your information, most people also prebend the B & C rig. As for legal...

Re: Telemetry again

Hmmm, interesting topic... I don't believe banning the technology is the answer. We don't want to restrict what people can buy. I see no problems with receiving that particular information, as essentially we can to nothing of consequence with it. Knowing the voltage, or RX temperature has no affect ...

Light Air Setup....

Hi everyone, Just wondering about how people go about setting up their rigs for lighter winds, and their reasoning behind it. For example this is how I setup my Obsession: Sails: Craig Smith Mast: 11.1 mm Groovy Jib boom sheeted 55-60mm out from centre of mast. Jib downhaul slack where luff ripples ...
