Re: Distance of windward separation mark

Gate Marks John One of the objectives is to discourage boat from coming through the Left ( effectively port round the Mark ) and immediately tacking across the gate , to starboard tack and the chaos that is sure to follow. Perhaps you don't get the level of entry to your events that we get  It...

Re: Mast. Groovy or straight

It is my belief that you would be better off with a tubular mast for an A rig no matter what IOM hull. a/ Lighter b / You can easily put some controlled pre-bend in it. This is not to say you cannot bend a Groovy mast - you can c/ Cheaper The Hound position determines the amount by which the mast fl...

AA Parts

Does anyone know what has become of AA Parts.
I have one of their winches which has operated flawlessly for 4 years and I would like to buy another

Sinking IOMs or How to Loose you IOM

I came upon a post on IOMIC forum about fitting flotation buoyance bags to an IOM. and as usual how the Class Rules do not specifically permit such buoyance bags and therefore are not permitted. The usual ... I thought that it might be more interesting to understand WHY/ HOW an IOM can take on water...

Re: floatation

It is probably more interesting to understand WHY/ HOW an IOM can take on water so quickly and sink rather than Rule Changes. I have a V9 and love it to bits. But.... The hatch cover is a plastic food container lid. probably for powdered milk sold in New Zealand, but not in the UK I witnessed my own...

Re: floatation

I am intrigued.

What / Which Rule. ?

The problem is getting 4.5 litres of air into the bow. ( 4 kg displacement ) in a V9

Try measuring the Volume of the Bow, put the boat stern up and add water.

Re: Mast Mount

CHECK STAYs If you really want to step the mast on the deck you might consider using CHECK STAYs to control the lower portion of the MAST . The Class Rules still allow for this and limit the height of the CHECK STAYS hound point to 100mm above the HEEL of the MAST i.e. the MAST Step. You will have ...

Amendments to Class Rules – Sails

Clearly a great deal of work went into the revision of the Class Rules for 2017 however intent upon clarity and a clean-up seems to have yawed off course somewhat. Consequently I do agree with John Ball that the revision should be rejected but clearly for differing reasons. Sails seem to be ever the...

Re: Pultruded Carbon Spars

It is amusing to see this go around in the usual circle. From defence of the current situation regarding the near single sourcing of aluminium tube to the customary prophecy of obsolescent of the fleet interspersed with technical reasons why aluminium masts are superior to pultruded carbon tub...
