Re: What batteries are people using?

I use a 850mah and sail from 2.30-5pm most of the time they wind up at 3.85v per cell which is perfect storage voltage,so i need not even put them back on the charger for a storage charge .I like the lead in the bottom of the boat. :D

Re: What batteries are people using?

HK usually states two weights on the spec sheet one is shipping weight.Deans micros will work fine but some say it's easy to short the batt with the exposed pins so be aware of that.

Re: What batteries are people using?

I use LiPo's most volts for the least weight,i did'nt doubt you when you posted the weight but i'm suprized they are as light as a 850mah lipo.Capasity affects weight in all the different chemistries we use.Peter

Re: What batteries are people using?

Yea i'm scratching my head also, when i look up lipos on HK a Turnigy 20C 1000mah is 62g and the 20C 1600 mah are 97g,LiFe's are supposed to weigh a bit more but Dave said he's weighed them 49g-76g both lighter.

Re: What batteries are people using?

Nothing wrong with endloop low self discharge batts probably the best brand in NiMh,just that 5 cells are 6v and nowhere near the 9v spec an RMG can take so 6 cell pack is better 7.2v,i feel better having a 125g extra in lead in the bottom of the boat 45g-170g ,while the RMG winch on a 2s lipo and 5...

Re: What batteries are people using?

One thing of concern is the 6.6 voltage is nominal these batts will come off the charger fully charged at about 7.2 volts and quickly drop a bit, they are a bit different in having a very flat discharge curve meaning they they will drop from full charge voltage and run at that voltage the whole way t...

Re: What batteries are people using?

That's a good choise not quite as much volts as a lipo 6.6 opposed to 7.4, but a more docile chemistry with fast charging capability, however i doubt thier claim that this battery weighs 68 grams a 2s 1600mah lipo is around 97g and LiFe's are a bit heavier so i would expect them to weigh 110-115g nea...

I think the RMG spec is correct at 6.1 revolutions per sec at least the EF model.Per minute would be slower than the Hi tec drum.

Re: Brushless winch

An RMG is repedtively accurate in it's trim position i like that if i want to crack i prefer to do it on the joystick and not guess where i am,when i'm in i know where i am lol.

Another question gentlemen 6,1 n-min. I cannot relate to this speed spec, what is the drum size and what is the comparable real time speed to lets say a RMG 280EF on a 32mm drum???

Re: Brushless winch

Thank you for clearing that up.Now as Anders has said we need one to be tested against the other winches on the market.I only have experience with RMG and have never even sailed a boat with an arm winch,as i tend to travel to regattas i always think in my mind the Hi Tec arm to be too easy to burn o...

Re: Brushless winch

Anders, what is your opinion of the circuit board being exposed,in one way it will be easy to change wires or spray it for self maintanence, but in most cases 90% of IOM's leak small or great amounts of water very few are totally dry.Peter

Re: Data transmission from the boat

Sorry John i misunderstood you,i agree my feeling is to keep telemetry out of the class except for batt voltage as this would seem to be a default feature of present radios and the ones who are going to implement it.It cannot improve your skill or boatspeed but it's handy to have especially for the ...

Re: Data transmission from the boat

We need to say function is restricted to two controls, winch and rudder.Quote John it's possible you can't buy one of those in the very near future, batt telemetry is already available by default on radios that are considerd entry level by the industry therefore everybody is going to do it to compete....

Re: Data transmission from the boat

So where is this idea of automated telemetry coming from?anyone have a link as i have certainly not read of it's inpending release by any manufacturer or futhermore of it's existance in a testing format.I would agree that all the major brands are going to impliment telemetry in order to compete with...

Re: Data transmission from the boat

Lester what you have described is the full use of telemetry and i agree it should not be allowed the rules are already in place. However recieving batt voltage is not quite in the same pot ,it's just useful information for LiPo users and has no bearing on boatspeed, nevertheless it's also illegal.Ther...

Re: Data transmission from the boat

As i had an optic i already had an Rx,having sold that Tx the Aurora was $279 so it was not an expensive upgrade in my personal switch cost was not an issue, but what a step up with what the radio can do.I see no reason to ban radios if they comply with class rules as it's usually the guy behind the ...

Well while you guys thrash this one out,i am using a HiTec Aurora 9 radio which is telementry capable and gives batt voltage on the screen without the need for sensors provided you are using the Optima 6,7 or 9 Rx, you get the main pack voltage if plugged into the SPC port or if not you see the 5v f...

Ted,i hear what you're saying but i don't know what you're thinking.I simply hate using Pet film sails, you need to mount them on an operating table and handle them for life with kid gloves,PX-15 is far better in that department and come to think of it you can't mould shape because it has arimid fibe...

Re: Single Panel Molded Sails

Can't be illegal, they all passed event measurement, there was talk that they would exceed the limit if pressed flat with the built in camber, but a seamed sail also carries camber so the same result would apply if pressed flat.

Bruce are you reffering to LiPo's 12.6v is normal end voltage after charging ,where Barry is refering to Nimh,i have charged over the years using hi quality delta peak chargers to cheap wall warts and never seen 12+v out of a NiMh pack best i've seen is 11.6 or so,if Barry says so it must be so.In a...
