Re: Keel

E.1.1 a ....a fin and a bulb.
a fin is singular so only 1 fin is allowed.

E.3.2 b.....shall not (3) have openings through which water could flow when in use.

Re: Redress...

Fix it. As some one who has been on the recieving end of this scenario (run down by windward boat on the start line) I think it is important to retain redress. Imagine the situation at a club level regatta, who would want to race against beginers? If they mess up you loose. Not a good scenario. I ju...

Re: What cord for sheeting and sail adjustment lines

Graham, It sounds like such a simple inocent question. But, the truth is, like so many other facets of sailing it is in a large part down to personal preference. The basic starting point is Dynema line as used by kite flyers so readilly available and cheap. Also has better holding power with bowsies...

Very true Steve
This could be covered by something like the following.
If a boat is promoted from a lower heat and does not finish its next heat, it should be awarded the position from the lower heat finish.
In other words, he gets awarded his best finish.

I would have thought that the principal of HMS is to simulate a full fleet race In the full fleet EVERYONE who does not finish scores fleet +1, the point exactly. One could argue that the last boat would be 20th weather it DNF etc or not But this guy has not completed this race. Just because he did...

I agree with Ole on this. Racing in heats and series is not just about the one heat/race, it is about good preperation to be able to compete for an extended period. Take the example of the boat that gets promoted all the way to A fleet. If the boat can only last these 5 heats it would not win a seri...

The advantages of shareing

I have started yet another thread on this subject to give a different point of view. I have been racing and building IOM's for some time. I thought it great that someone came up with the idea of using the same rigs and keel. It allows me to design and build a more challenging hull (the design envelo...

I agree with the idea in principal. However I feel the actual rules will need a little more work. If a slit is cut into the sail it will need to be joined in some manner? For a conventional broad seam joint there are plenty of controls over seam width, number of seams etc etc, shouldn't these be inc...

Anders I'm sure you mean the same thing but I would like to clarify, I think you would need to introduce a new rule that allows the use of any one of these three items you talk about rather than a rule to reverse the interpretation. After all an interpretation is just that, it is what the TC thinks ...

Continental Championships

It has come to my attention that IOMICA is given permission to hold ONE international event per year. My question to Tito and Lester is therefore:- Is it possible to hold an IOMICA sanctioned North American Championship in the same year as a European Championship, or would the 2 events be in competi...

Anders On the boat I use at the moment, which is the prototype for my own design, I have the antenna exit the top of the pot. Then it runs inside a tube, which leads aft, and up to clear the end of the boom at about 40deg. On the production model the rx will be placed behind the sheet post so the an...

There have been some negative coments about this. The system drops in nicely and is very simple to set up. The rx is ...

From my understanding the 5745 is simply a newer version of the 5735. A couple of minor changes in the case and a more realistic power rating. I have one of each in 2 of my boats that have been running for over a year with the ocasional dunk in salt water and they both still work fine. (bet they don...

Ray You need to bear in mind that the rules governing sails are in part II and therefore are closed class rules. In other words anything not specifically permitted is illegal. The only refference to markings (other than class insignia and identification) is the max 3 sail shape indicator stripes whi...

James You wouldn't be far wrong with that approach :!: If narrow boats are winning what about the TS2 :?: IMHO model sailboats can not really be compared to most full size yachts as the dynamics are just so different. For example look at the CoG, about 20cm under the hull for a model (3+ times max r...

We here in Vancouver are lucky to have a few enthusiastic sailors who didn't mind the time and effort to design and build a tank. Patrick I look at it this way:- Energy is a simple thing, you can't make it or lose it you simply transfer it from one thing to another, ideally from the wind into boat speed, therefore your boat speed can only be reduced if some of the rigs energy is being used to flex the fin or hull ( remember on...
