Resolution 6.7, November 2012

A number of radio sailing designers, manufacturers, and owners have such reservations about IOMICA Resolution 6.7 of November 2012 that they have written a note to IOMICA ( http://www.onemetre.net/OtherTopics/IOMclass/Coloured%20resin.htm ) on the matter. Readers will recognise that the note seeks t...

Re: Changes to Class Rule G.3.1 and G.4.1 to alter sail cons

Both interpretations 2003-IOM-5 and 2011-IOM-3 said that single panel sails are permitted. All the verbiage in the 2012 AGM proposal about single panels, faulty interpretations, 'effective' class rules, and breaking Class Regulations is irrelevant. It is sad to see how much sand the proposal has kic...

Re: The new ISAF RRS 2013-2016 are out

I think it would be better if everyone put a stripe just under the last digit of the sail number in all sails. Hi Xabier I think there may be a couple of problems with that, especially at a larger event (smile)... What would I hail if I wanted to protest? And, what would the scorer enter into the r...

Re: The new ISAF RRS 2013-2016 are out

as per E3.8 the hail SHOULD be "Recall 4. Recall 141." x2 - pretty clear and unambiguous. If we're going strictly by RRS An interesting view I hadn't thought of! I confess that I have previously understood "the race committee shall promptly hail ‘Recall (sail numbers)’" to mean that the hail "Recal...

Managing technical resolutions

The poor quality of the technical resolutions put to the vote recently had me scratching my head. It seems that the provisions of IOMICA Regulations to ensure sound proposals were not being used to their full extent. IOMICA Regulation 7.2 “A proposed amendment to the IOM Class Rules shall first be s...

Re: The new ISAF RRS 2013-2016 are out

I've assembled a list of all the changhes I could see to Appendix E, http://www.onemetre.net/Race/RRS2013/2013AppE.htm Highlights include: E4.2(b) : Boats receiving help from the safety boat or safety crew must retire, having received outside help which is not permitted according to this rule. Re: The new ISAF RRS 2013-2016 are out

Good to start a discussion on the new rules. I'm particularly interested in the Appendix E rules. One thing I've noticed is that E3.8(a) deletes 30.2, the scoring penalty for an OCS boat. Can't for the life of me see why, I've run more than one event using 30.2 very successfully, much better than go...

Re: IOM Class Rules and MFs - 2012 Edition

Hi Robert

The solution to the batten pocket / batten end / sail leech problem is a great of out-of-the-box idea. An earlier IOMICA Technical Sub-Committee wrestled with this problem and was unable to see any way around it... Can you tell us how the current solution came about?

Re: Asking for interpretation - kicking strap

As ever, there are two issues. One is the interpretation, and whether the Class Rules as they stand currently permit such kicking strap or vang arrangements. The second, which I guess will inevitably attract equally heated debate, is whether the Class would want to change the Class Rules so as to pe...

Might be worth having a "for example" here, so we can see what could happen if the stable door was opened. (Might also be worth remembering that, once opened, stable doors are more or less impossible to close again.) The fly boys currently purchase after-market flight stabilisation, artificial horiz...

Re: Scale to weigh boat

I think this is the item John referenced: http://www.harborfreight.com/digital-scale-95364.html To calibrate it, the manual says to use two 2500 g weights. A very nice touch for a $20 scale. Of course, a 2500 g weight certified to M1 standard would probably cost around $40. (I couldn't find a suppli...

Re: Scale to weigh boat

In my experience, the real issue isn't the scales -- almost anything with a 1 gram resolution will work, particularly for keeping track of other IOM weight budget items such as batteries, and 2 grams is OK, though 5 grams resolution is only good for the whole boat's 4 kg. No, the real issue accuracy...

IRSA holds IOM Worlds, approves Championship rules for Euro

I was amazed to read this month's MYA "Acquaint" magazine, where IRSA Publicity Officer Robert Hobbs tells us "This year we [IRSA] have held an IOM World Championship", and "Addendum Q, HMS 2007 and SYRPH were formally recognised recognised and were updated for use in the Association [IRSA] Champion...

Re: Moulded sails -- future rule change?

I would be reluctant to change the rules at this moment possibly closing the door on a technology that is going to see equipment cost come down instead of going up. Hi Nigel This is a key point, of course. My thinking is that there is a profound difference between closing an opened door, and openin...

Moulded sails -- future rule change?

Now that we have the interpretation, it might be worth discussing any future rule change -- do we actually want moulded sails in the class, or not? There are pros and cons. Moulded sails for our toy boats is a 'new' technology which may in the long term make all our lives easier. In ten years time w...

I believe IOMICA Regulation 3.4 may apply (applications shall be publicly announced).

There are usually good reasons for initial discussions to be relatively confidential, but now that the MYA has leaked this information, there seems a good case for the Exec to let us know more details.

While I'm sure Neil and Richard have the best interests of the IOM Class at heart (who doesn't?), I don't know that the lack of compliance of event organisers with IOMICA policy is to be laid at Alfonso's door. Re: 2010 AGM Agenda and Notice of Meeting

I'm a little hazy on the regulations, but I see from the agenda that only two officers have been nominated for the Exec (both unopposed). The World Council will only be 'voting' for these two candidates, hence no others will or can be elected, and so the incoming Exec will consist of exactly two per...

Approval for European Championships

Here is something not too many people know -- class 'European Championships' are controlled by Eurosaf in the same way that class 'World Championships' are controlled by ISAF. In both cases, authority is delegated to ISAF-RSD to approve such championships. At http://www.eurosaf.org/1055 we may read:...
