Funny thing is I agree with both sides here. I do think that the World's entry fee is in line with previous events and I know that it does not cover the costs of the event. At the same time, I also think that we need to take a hard look at the IOM World's and try to figure out a way to lower the ove...

Have you also looked at the Futaba spread spectrum gear. A number of people here in the US have chosen the three or six channel model. Regardless of choice, the futaba servo should still work fine. As to the RMG, it will also work, but depending on the age of the unit there might be some issues abou...

Thanks for your enthusiasm Steve. In fairness, let me express a certainty that a World Championship in Spain would also be a great experience. I'm sure all of us would also like to thank both Barbados and Spain for coming forward and offering to host the IOM Worlds. Be assured that the review proces...

Rather than try and cram everything together, why not put the rudder servo by itself, centered behind the main sheet post? What is done, you cut an opening in the deck for the installation and removal of this servo, mount the servo, and then cover the hole with a piece of sticky back plastic. You ca...

Really have to say that it today's world, unless you enjoy the idea of building your own battery packs, it is much easier, smart and convenient to buy the packs already built. First, you can get very high quality cells. Second, you get professional grade wiring and wrapping including your choice of ...

I was suggesting that a permitted piece of radio gear such as a winch or receiver that had as an integral part of its design and construction some sort of voltage readout would probably be legal. Same for a battery pack if the voltage read out was an integral part of its design and construction. But...

Let me throw a few things out here for discussion. First, trying to come up with some sort of "technical" justification to fit an on-board fixed battery read out meter within the existing IOM class rules is not going to fly. You can come up with as many clever explanations as you like, but the fact ...

Ok guys, here is what I don't understand. Why haven't any of you gotten your NCA to put up a proposal to have battery read out devices included in the IOM Class Rules? I have made that suggestion numerous times over the course of the last year. Our Chairman, Andy, suggested that if any members where...

Either the multi-box device is a single receiver or it is two or more receivers. Either way under the proposed rule change it would be legal. The concept of testing whether the two box device will function with one box disconnected is irrelevant. You can probably go to the circuit board of a receive...

Related to this question, there seems to be finally some desire to clarify the rules regarding permitted materials for rig fittings. As currently written the IOM Class Rules do not specify any permitted materials for rig fittings and the class has acted as if this means that rig fitting materials ar...

Also, Ralph, at present measurement forms are sent in and a single certificate is held by the national authority for the boat, sails and rig. A part of the suggested new rule change would be to now have the certificates kept by the class members. If this was the case, then there is an argument to be...

Maybe "rigs" is the wrong term. The idea would be to separate the measurement forms into two--one for the hull; one for the sails/rigs. These forms would be sent to the national authority to receive a certificate. Question is should there be two certificates issued--one for the hull; one for the rig...

The problem of retaining paperwork has been raised by among others the NCA from Great Britain. New Forms/New System
There has been some talk about revising the IOM rules so that (1) there will be separate certificates for the hull and the rigs; and (2) certificates will be issued by the national authority and retained by owners.
There seems to be broad support for this concept among the Exec, any thoughts?

Seems like a good time to bring this issue up again. It would seem hard to find a "loophole" in the rules that allows the use of a built in battery status checking device. That said I don't think anyone believes this is an item that should be banned. Problem as I see it is if we open up the rules an...
