Re: MX14 Setup Information

I have temporally moved the Headsail No1 rig sheeting position 20mm forward. The point being 230mm aft of the attachment point and the jib sheeting sheet point also to 230mm from the swivel position. It made a tremendous difference in the blustery conditions that prevail today. Now the jig seems to ...

Re: MX14 Setup Information

I will confess to being more than a little disappointed in the responses thus far . I did have a sail last week with this boat but was dogged with erratic performance but then it was an erratic wind. Feast to famine as it were... I had the mast as forward as it goes and the boat was nicely balanced ...

MX14 Setup Information

MX14 Setup Information Gentlemen, Has anyone established any MX14 setup data. mast rake etc. for general wind conditions. After sailing my faithful old tubby boat for some years now I am hoping to make the migration to this new , and narrow boat as painless as possible and need a starting point. Tha...

Re: What "..shall pass through a 20mm, ring gauge." BOOM F.

Forgive me, if you know all this what is your question. Innovation is a good thing but I see nothing particularly innovative in what you propose. The kick strap adjustment is super critical - 1/4 turn is a bout 0.3 mm on my adjuster and a quarter turn is the difference between going well or plonking...

MX 14 Fin

I need some help please. The MX 14 has a rectangular fin box and the fin transitions to rectangle at the hull... Ok So when I put the fin in the fin box the step of the transition is more or less flush at the front but the is a 2.5 mm step / gap at the rear. Clearly this is most undesirable and will...

Re: Drum winch at lowish price

Never worry about experience or the lack of it. The seeding race sort all that out and you will end up sailing with like experienced sailors and will have a lot of fun. Most importantly however, the experience you will gain will be invaluable and when you get back to your club sailing your club will...

Fellas / The winch MX #### and one needs to be a little careful here , looks to me very much like the Eurgle. There are/were two versions of the Eurgle both in the same size can one Black anodised and the other Gold Anodised. I bought three of them some years ago for about £19.00 each + PP from the ...

Re: Drum winch at lowish price

The only drawback being, apart from the postage cost.. is that it will last about 5 minutes in an IOM at the top of A rig conditions. And I guess then you will be posting something about how the smell overpowered the swans on the pond. Don't sail in a 12 kt with A rig and avoid fetching and reaching...

I do not recall stating this to be a RULE … not all things are RULES and If I gave that impression I do apologise for it was not intended. But you knew it was not a Class Rule. The class rules only constrain the highest position of the headsail My comment is based upon having owned and sailed a TS2 ...

Re: On the water at last !!!!!

But not so low that a line draw between the Tack and Clew of the head sail intersects the mast below the lower limit mark / band as I recall. But at Eastbourne I doubt you will derive any benefit by lowering the rig because of the wind pattern on that pond This is an IOM site -- is it really appropr...

Re: Rudder servo strength

In reality there is very little torque exerted by the rudder on the servo because the rudder is to a degree balanced because the rudder stock is offset. Unlike on a dingy where the rudder pintails are located at the leading edge of the rudder a pivot point is at about 30% of the rudder chord. This o...

Re: Can I use kevlar or carbon tow to attach the gooseneck/v

Well you seem to be getting into the idea of it. The 12.5 mm section is added to the mast and is not in reality a Fitting ... it is the Masts So have a peep at the IOM Class requirements regarding the mast. As I said in an earlier post the bit of interest to you is the Mast below the Bottom Band . F...

Re: Can I use kevlar or carbon tow to attach the gooseneck/v

No traps there. But I doubt if it will relies because the resin will shrink very tight and release agent will not help at all in this area. The best , for me is two machine screws on the centre and to Tap the fitting to M2. This allows me to pack the bottom out afterwards.. There is not a lost of st...

Re: Can I use kevlar or carbon tow to attach the gooseneck/v

I do not quite understand WHICH problem you are trying to avoid. 1/ The terribly bad workmanship clearly evident - This I am afraid is well beyond the scope of the Class Rules. 2/ The corrosion cause by Stainless Steel in contact with the Aluminium 3/ ??? There are a hundred way to recover the mast ...

You should make a sketch of what you intend to do .. Your description is not really all that clear.... or take a picture of what you, by now, have done. But = Fittings are not restricted with respect to their Materials of construction and MAY comprise a multitude of differing Materials . I dislike t...

Digital software engineer or not .. The antenna on the majority, 90%, of IOM yachts installation are coiled up in the pot. I do not quite have mine coiled up but none the less it is in the pot. Only on my RM is it protruding from the hull because of the carbon hull. The top of pot never below the wa...

Colin, I am intrigued.. why do you want to put a hole in the pot lid and poke the aerial out.. You do not need to do this. An IOM is glass not carbon there is no problem with range, even with the aerial's coiled up in the pot. . Just be sensible.. Battery at the bottom, all wiring next and the recei...

Colin, It sounds like you are getting the usual clatter trap from the non-contesting pond experts… and boy have I heard it over the years. We are all painfully aware of who built the boat, how you acquired it on E-bay.
