I have run out of IOM stuff to read. I have been through Ander's and Lester's sites many times. Is there any more web sites of that quality and content hiding out there?
Thanks
Don

Thanks Barry Why I am wondering is because the average guy is supposed to be able to design and build an IOM at his kitchen table(or so the story goes). It is tough enough to get the displacement right without the constraint of the 60mm depth. Because of this I thought there must be some advantage t...

60mm
Can someone explain the necessity of the 60mm draft rule? What advantage is there in having a boat with a deeper hull draft? The keel depth is limited by the 420 rule.
Thanks

Room, I'm using a 4.5in jar lid for a hatch and I want to get at everything through it. If I could find a 5in lid it would be golden.Bruce Andersen wrote:I've used the JR mini servos in a heavy boat to make minimum weight, but in a boat that needs corrector weights anyhow, what's the point?

Thanks for the thoughts I have a phobia about deck patches. On one of my first trips to watch some model boats I watched a brand new IOM disappear in about a second when a deck patch peeled off. I can still hear the skipper swearing. I have not trusted them since. Maybe a second, smaller lid for eit...

Would a Hitec HS85mg mini servo be suitable for a rudder servo? It has metal gears and roughly the same torque as a standard servo. I would have to check the return to center. I am trying to crowd everything into a 4.5 in jar lid and any room would be welcome. I have heard that metal gears have some...

You know, I thought of this before, but I was thinking that if I had a 5 cell holder I could use it for alkalines by putting in a dummy. It never crossed my mind to use a 6 cell with a dummy for 5. I guess thats why you're a professor and I'm just an old telephone guy. Come to think of it there is p...

John I haven't read good things about rechargable alkalines so I'll shy away from them for a while. Barry 37 years with the telephone company,I hope I can solder. My reason for using individual cells is that I have seen too many battery packs thrown away because of one duff cell(remember, I'm...

Good point. I was just surfing, looking for a 5 cell AA battery holder and there ain't no such thing. I was thinking that maybe I could use a 6 cell holder. Never thought about the receiver.   I might have eventually. Like when I saw the factory smoke rising from the boat. Thanks ...

most all of the available servos produce enough torque - the important points are how well they return to dead center and weight (if your boat's heavy). The digital servos are more expensive but claim more accurate return to dead center. It never occurred to me that this might be an issue. I guess ...

Rudders
I have been surfing old posts and notice a few that seem to indicate that maybe rudders and rudder servos should stronger than I thought. Are CF rudders and high torgue servos really necessary or is it just a bigger is better thing? What kind of torque would be about right?
Thanks

IOM Plans
I have been searching the forum for IOM plans and most that I found have dead links. Are there any free downloadable plans out there? I have the Arrow and Triple Crown. I would purchase plans( I'm not totally cheap) but most of the commercial sights don't show the lines so you really don't know what...

I found this while looking around here.

Has this been accepted? Can I build and use these gauges and expect to pass measurement?
Thanks

Mast sources
Hi all
I'm looking for some masts. Does anyone know of a source in Arizona? My bro-in-law spends the winter at Havasu and I thought he could pick up some and save us the shipping/customs hassle.
Thanks
Don

Hi Don That’s an interesting observation. Could you expand a little? What did you struggle to find? Cheers I was trying to see how long the mast was(I was thinking about using a US1M CF mast until I could get an aluminum one) and I had to go to C.7.4(a) to get the deck to lower point and then to ...

Hi everyone My name is Don Case and I sail model yachts. Up til now I sailed a US1M Mistral but the trend on the Island is towards IOM so here I go. Since I had a bare Mistral hull kicking around I thought I would take a shot at converting it. I widened the transom and pushed the beam out to ...
