Greetings all
I have been made aware that the IOM class reaches its 21st birthday this year. I’d be interesting in peoples thought on how best to celebrate such a milestone?

Hi Tony why have these useful bits been ditched? As I understand it the diagram wasn’t included in the re-write of the class rules because the leech points could have been misleading. The diagram shows them at even intervals along the leech measurement(C in the matrix) where, of course, they’re ...

2009 Malta Open National Championships
Vinnie Zammit has advised that MMBA will be running the 2009 Malta Open National Championships over the 4 days Saturday 28th March to Tuesday 31st March 2009.
I joined Vinnie and the MMBA last year and would thoroughly recommend attending.

Hi Robert Thank you for some very interesting feedback. Clear evidence that event measurement is a very important aspect of running a regatta! It’s also clear that the workload imposed on those responsible for equipment checks at large regattas would be significantly eased if the boats presented f...

Hi Paulo [...]these voltage indicators do not go against the rules I suspect they do, they’re not listed in CR D.2.4 as permitted radio control equipment. Whether they should be legal or not is another matter entirely and one that has, as yet, not found sufficient momentum for an NCA to propose a ...

Hi Barry Good to hear from you. What happens if you say nothing about receivers at all. With closed class rules, as the IOM class rules are, not specifying receivers means you can't have one. Clearly not what we're aiming for. technically we aren't allowed transmitters Quite right, your boat would m...

Hi Lester I can see where Fred is coming from :) I would counter with something like: Me: Just because the black box doesn’t work on its own, doesn’t necessarily discount it from actually being a receiver. As I understand it the thing does receive signals from the transmitter, pretty much defini...

Hi Lester, That’s an interesting point, however I think the conversation might continue to a satisfactory conclusion: [...]Me: Ok, the receiver does work without the black box attached, but that doesn’t discount it from being a receiver. I’m lead to believe that it is, in fact, a second receiv...

My Personal opinion. I’m not unhappy with the measurement process as it is. Yes, there are loop holes, as Lester points out. And Marko’s suggestion that rigs shouldn’t be measured isn’t new. I think we need to maintain a balance between equipment control and the time taken to carry it out. T...

Hi Roy, This is just my personal opinion, and I’m not 100% sure but... Upon receipt of a satisfactorily completed measurement form(s)[...] The boat MF has facility for 3 rigs only, one of each.
