Well, certification control and equipment inspection are to achieve different things. Certification control gives approval for equipment to be used for racing. That equipment is certified is however not proof that the equipment is legal, only that the official measurer carrying out the certification...

New ERS terms
Dont confuse Event Measurement with Fundamental Measurement. Sorry, my mind missed the "event" (not the first time!). It is certainly easy to confuse these terms and this is the reason why these, and other related terms, are amended in the current Equipment Rules of Sailing. The concept of "measure...

I am happy to continue discussing and explaining ISAF rules...

Then you risk loosing your ISAF eligibility. And if you loose your ISAF eligibility you cannot take part in any event - not only IOM events - covered by ISAF regulation 19.3 quoted below.Eric wrote:And if I take part in the "Micro-Magic World Championship" ? What happens then?

Hi Eric, If I organize a Micro Magic "World" Champiomship ,I will also be banned from IOM sailing in the ISAF ? It has to do with your ISAF eligibility as sailor – not as organiser. Hi Eric, But F5M and IOM are not even the same Boat, the Classrules are different I may have misunderstood you but it is not the class that is the issue. The issue is the title of the event. Hi again Gyula, Some elder rc sailors told me that there were times when Romania was YMRU and Naviga member in the same time. Is this possible, or I misunderstood something? Gyula, Woldnt it be better somehow to get it together Absolutely! When IMYRU turned to IYRU in the 1980ies we had realised that we would not be able to develop the rules specific to radio sailing and at the same time duplicate the services IYRU and their national sailing associations could provide t...

As has been explained, the issue is not that a Naviga event is "prohibited" (ISAF has no power to do that!), but only that a sailor must choose whether to sail under an ISAF umbrella or a Naviga umbrella, because ISAF does not accept that a sailor can do both at "world championship" level. I agree ...

Gyula, The issues you raise are very important and issues ISAF-RSD ought to look into. However, the current radio sailing membership in ISAF is sort of a temporary solution until the most suitable form for full integration is found. The ISAF-RSD membership will this year vote on a proposal that the ...

Hi again Gyula, Two things inspired by your postings. why not send the best skippers to Poland and prove that IOM boats are better. The fact that IOM boats tend to beat F5E boats probably has to do with the level of competition in the two classes. The few construction differences that remain in the ...

A little history. When IMYRU was planning to join IYRU I had some talks with Hans Kukula, then Naviga secretary and chairman of their sailing section. IMYRU's plan was to relinquish its world authority status and have radio sailing becoming a part of IYRU. The question put to Hans Kukula was whether...

Hi Roy As far as I know, there is absolutely no way that a race committee in one country can know if the marks on the sail were placed there by an official measurer of another country. Normally there is a licence number which can be verified with the MNA. If e.g. there is on a sail only a signature ...

Hmm. Are measurers required to have a paper license from the MNA appointing or recognizing them? I wonder how many do. As I mentioned before these are things the MNA decides about. Hi Charles I would just like to rephrase 2 and 3: 2. For certification control , ERS C.4.2, performed within the borders of that MNA, measurers must be appointed by or recognized by the MNA (but, as with an owner, the measurer is not required to be a citizen of the MNA country). When so appointed or...

Registration, certification control and certification are territory issues. ISAF regards the MNA as the sole authority for what happens in the MNA’s country and the ERS definitions and rules reflect this. To carry out certification control the measurer has to be appointed or recognised by the MNA....

The difference with gauge measurement is not a problem to check but that different hull forms will permit different actual hull and boat draught. A gauge rule will thereby drive design development. Measurement from waterplane and measurement with a gauge are not compatible methods and only class own...

Re: How to get recognized as an IOM fleet?
1. Do the IOM fleet have to pay a fee to the NSA? (if so how much?) This is up to the Member National Authority – using ISAF nomenclature – to decide. Usually MNAs require a national class association – which your fleet probably will be recognised as – to pay a class association fee. 2. Doe...

The IOM class rules introduced a concept that was new to radio sailors without experience of such rules in big boat sailing. Under the pre ERS format class rule we had a certificated boat which fully complied with the rule. There is a Standard Class Rules (SCR) format which pre...

Regarding Jan's comments, the ISAF requirements for full size boats do not adequately translate to the radio classes in all instances and we need the flexibility to do what makes sense for us.
