Well Peter I think a new boat would be a little drastic measure too take, as the boat is very fast as soon as the wind picks up. I ve just ordered a Hitec HS85 BB which only ways 22g and puts out 3,5kg torque.. and I also getting some AAA NiMh batteries.l This means I am looking at about 405...

What servo do you use?

I am trying to find a little weight saving potential in my boat as it is about 210g over the limit. I can save about 130g on the battery. In addition I have also been looking into a miniature servo. I am using a Futaba 9205 which weighs about 50g and looking at some of the smaller servos I cou...

Yes, Andreas Schiebel a sailor from Munich in Germany how works for a TV station has got some professional footage of various classes of model racing yachts including IOM. He has made a DVD which we offer as promo material when we are at exhibitions with the German NCA. check out http://mjc-muenchen...

Yes Steve I'll second that! :!: My opinion with the IOM is, that 90% or more of winning an IOM event goes down to the skippers skills in racing as well tuning and tweaking ths maximum out of the boat he/she is racing. If you have got these two areas covered there are proberbly at least 10 IOM design...

TS2 does it again

Congratulations to Craig Smith for winning the Austrailian Nationals.

It is remarkable how the "old" TS2 can still hold up against new designs such as the Disco or Cockatoo

Predator

Hi Ed, I can't second what Steve said about the Predator, I really suffered the same problems he had with his Highlander. The boat was a b.... at the top of No. 1 rig. On the other hand it was one of the fastest boats as soon as everyone was on No. 2. The good thing about the boat is, that I learned...

I know we have only just had the 2003 worlds and don't know where we are going 2005 but Don's idea with the worlds in Valencia 2007 is awesome! What an opportunity to present our "sport" to the public. As some big-boat sailors are into RC sailing we might even have a chance of getting there if the o...

Worlds venue

@ Jeff, the Europeans are normally always held in Europe  I do get the point, that having the euros in Spain and the worlds in Portugal the following year seems strange. From a personal travelling point of view Portugal would be nice. But I think it would only be fair to have the Worlds 2005 o...

Steve, jep I hadn't considered the wording toppingLIFT. Allthough it could be argued, that this setup is "lifting" the front of the boom

Jib Boom

Would a jib boom constuction like this be legal for an IOM?? Taking into consideration that I would use class legal materials.

(I hope Nigel doesn't mind, but scrolling the screen to see everyone's...

Thanks Lester, that's really what I was looking for. :D How does this work in practice? Do change the whinch in your boat according to the weather you are expecting?? The Binks brothers both used the arm whinch in Vancouver as far as I know and that event so a fair bit of wind at some times didn't i...

Well my knowledge of physics is only very basic, as this was one of the subjects I was very glad to give up in school as early as possible  but I of course I am aware of the influence of the arm length. The point I am trying to get to is, is a servo of this size necessary or would something in...

Arm Winch

I have been wondering about the arm winch offered by Kbits. It is based on the Jumbo sized Hitec digital servo that puts out 19kg of torque. The question is, is so much torque actually required for an IOM and has anybody ever done some detailed research on the sheetingloads on our boats  Cheers

Thanks everybody for the input!!! :D I have actually used Sailwave for a race, but we only sailed in a single group. From my brief experience I don't think it covers sailing in multiple heats etc. Zoran and Ralph, thanks very much for offering free software. I will see what I can make of it. Cheers

I can't say I really like the idea of giving up discards. This could mean that a technical defect could decide a weeks worth of racing at a major championship. For example, a German competitor at the last Marbelhead Worlds in Ravenna was troubled with massive radio trouble in a heat forcing him to r...
