Negative points are: a per boat fee for new hulls of 0.4% of the cost of the hull for new boats only. I scratch build my own hulls. The cost is under CAN$100 for balsa, glass cloth and resin and paint and some lead etc. So at 0.4%, my fee should be around CAN $0.40 or approx.GB 20 pence. Given that...

I suspect that the current 'block voting', sometimes referred to as the 'electoral college' leads to voting indifference from our owners around the world. The voter is an extra step away from the outcome. It is easy to say "I don't need to vote as others in my country will vote and our country still...

I think I speak for all IOM sailors that we are pleased that this issue has been resolved and that we now have a new executive in place. As if the executive did not have enough to work on with the various issues raised about the clarity of the class rules, and with the debate on the future of the IC...

I have looked through the documents available online and I think that the problem around how to count the votes stems from the resolution at the 2004 AGM on vote splitting. http://www.iomclass.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=242 To me, a resolution is like a bylaw. However, anything to do with proportion...

To me, there are several competing variables. 1. to be an International class requires a qualified international jury. 2. How many judges are required. RC sailing incidents happen fast and frequently. More so than in full sized racing. So the demands and mental pressure on the judge is much higher. ...

Which boat is this?
I was looking at the Barbados images
http://www.sailbarbados.com/events/iom/ ... index.html
Looking at the photo 3 across and 5 down... CRO 82.
The results lists show this boat as a Topiko, but the photo shows chines like a Pikanto.

Hi Don, As the class rule does not specify it exactly, you need to refer to the Equipment Rules of Sailing (The ERS) that may be downloaded from the ISAF web site. Read section G. I think the answer is G.7.2 Leech Length The distance between the head point and the clew point. Also see G7.4 This sugg...

Hi Lester, I was just reading your reply on the Australian forum and it prompted the following thought. The designation of international class or recognised class etc. is contained in the ISAF regulations. The ISAF-RSD had its own definitions for class qualification. If the RSD is dissolved or if it...

While the class rules say 'fixed', the ERS statement for corrector weights says 'securely fixed'. I would like to see our class rule use exactly the same words as the ERS, unless we want to say something completely different in order to over-ride the ERS. That way, any ISAF ruling about this item wo...

Hi Antonio, and Yes I can understand your English. Well done! While I understand your point that the measurer may point out to the jury the applicable rules, the skipper also has the same right, in the hearing to point out the rules that he/she thinks are appropriate to the situation too. The jury m...

Antonio, 10mm masts are not class legal. The ESP attempt to change the class rules to reduce the min. mast diameter did not receive the necessary number of votes >66%. Hi Nigel, I agree with you that the 10mm masts are not legal as the item has not yet been endorsed by the RSD. I agree with you tha...

the class voted to allow 10mm masts. Not 9.6mm. Not 10.4 mm. TEN. Plain and simple.. Roy, I agree with you. From reading the background documents, the original value was set to grandfather all existing rigs and allow for manufacturing tollerances. However that argument does not apply to the new val...

Reading the IOM constitution, a rule change such as the mast dia change requires a 2/3rds majority vote at it falls in the category 'special'. 8.8. Resolutions 8.8.1. This thread is moving in an interesting direction (what votes are required - and clearly, this must be settled), but the question was really directed at the RSD approval process and the impending demise of the RSD. If the RSD has to approve rules changes before they are official, has the RSD already...

What is the status of the 2008 voted rules changes?
In 2008, we voted on several class rules changes, including the 10mm mast dia change.
As I understand it, the rules changes need approval from the RSD before becoming final.
What is the current status of those changes Please?

The ISAF regulations for International Casses

I wondered what the ISAF regulations looked like. The regulation covering governance of International and ...

Thanks Lester. I had not realised that the other three classes did not have their own ICAs. So, if I understand correctly, there are three options for the IOM class. 1. Join the ISAF directly. 2. Join the IRSCA as a class or as an ICA and be affiliated with ISAF 3. Leave the ISAF and go our own way....

From Lester's post, it sounds like we would pay 1. A sticker fee to ISAF (about GBP5) for each new boat we build 2. A registration fee to our NCA of $5 (as we do today) for each new boat that we build or register . .but that money then flows through to the ISAF. 3. The IOM ICA pays an annual fee to ...

Issues around the impending demise of the RSD
There is something VERY important going on and that is not being discussed sufficiently. It appears that the ISAF wants to eliminate DIVISIONS from its structure. We fall under the RSD and so are affected. I am not too concerned about the structure we fall into, however, buried in the documents is w...
