Hi Ed'
one of our local sailors has a new Cockatoo which was purchased from Jeff at the USA nats late last year,it's a Cockatoo hull with an Extreme deck on it,so thats my guess, but dont hold me to it,the overall beam is also a tad less than the other Cockatoo thats here.Regards Peter

thanks peter. i am looking at a cockatoo at http://gbmy.com/mirage.html , at http://www.cmyachts.co.uk/ , and of course at http://members.optusnet.com.au/~jeffrey ... /index.htm . it never occured to me the several variants were made.

The newer Cockatoo hulls differ slightly from the original design in the forward 2-3 sections.

Ed,the boats that you are looking at all have the original deck, oval on the fore deck, this boat here has on a completley different deck alltogether,i have only popped a tape on it briefly and it's about 3 mm less on the max beam. When it returns from Dallas i'll have a closer look at it. Regards Peter

Jeff can correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that the "Extreme" is a new design from Mirage Yachts and is not a "Cockatoo"

It is also my understanding that there is also an updated version of the Cockatoo that incorporates a deck molded for the "Extreme".

If you look at the www.iom-nordic.org under technical/design/extreme,
you will find a quote from Jeff stating that the Extreme is something else than the Cockatoo...
Jeff wrote this since there was many uncorrect rumours about the Extreme design going around.

Ok the boat is back,it's an updated Cockatoo carrying the Extreme deck changes are minor in overall beam measurement,as stated the Extreme is a different hull again being narrow, funny enough it showed good light air speed at the USA nats, but by my understanding was intended for heavy air, that's also strange considering that the proven TS2 relies on her beam for stability when it blows.Regards Peter
