RMG 280 GEARTRAIN NOISE

Post by edmorales » 03 Jan 2004, 12:40

I have recently purchased a pre-owned IOM fitted with an RMG 280 sailwinch. Is it normal for the geartrain to make noise while operating? I just want other's opinions , because the Futaba S3801 sailarm servo on my Tamiya W60 is more quiet when operating. It is noisy even with no load, e.g. the sheets unattached to the jib/main booms. Any advise for a newbie from a person with more experience shall be appreciated. Thanks :?:

Also, you should use no grease on the gears. This attracts dirt which is noisy and causes wear, accordly to Rob Guyatt.

that's exactly what the owner's manual says, no grease and wd-40 as it can damage the plastic gears. i was just concerned about the noise but now that i know that its normal i can sleep better :)
