IOM Class 2024 Year in Review

The International One Metre (IOM) class experienced a dynamic year in 2024, marked by significant events and developments:

  • Rule Amendments: In February, the IOMICA implemented Amendment 2024-1, standardizing the kicking strap dimension to fit a 20 mm ring gauge, enhancing competitive fairness.
  • World Championship: The 2024 IOM World Championship was held in Gladstone, Queensland, Australia, from October 20th to 28th. The Australian Radio Yachting Association (ARYA) released the official Notice of Race in February, detailing event specifics.
  • Annual General Meeting (AGM): The AGM took place on December 4th, with key dates and resolution submission timelines announced in September. This facilitated structured discussions and decision-making within the IOM community.
  • Global Expansion: China officially joined the IOMICA in May, strengthening global representation in RC sailing. This inclusion enriches the association’s diversity and collective expertise.
  • Future World Championship in 2026 announced: The GBR NCA was selected to host the 2026 IOM World Championship at Datchet Sailing Club, scheduled for May 15th to 23rd. This decision, announced in August, followed a thorough bid evaluation process and we are looking forward to seeing many of you in Great Britain on this brilliant event.

Another thing we wanted to share is a full summary of results from IOM Hall of Fame we are tracking. Detailed leaderboard was taken from TOP 10 list we have on our website, but some parts of list are incomplete so we would kindly ask for updates if some of you have more info about older events from past that are incomplete on Hall of Fame.
