Comment period open for Turkey's inclusion in IOMICA

The country of Turkey seeks to affiliate with IOMICA as a National Class Association. The Turkish Sailing Federation has been approved by the International Radio Sailing Association as a Division Member, and based on this approval, the Executive Team has reviewed the application and puts it forward ...

Re: IOM European Championships 2010 => FRA Pierrelatte

I can't thank the organizers enough for such wonderful coverage, allowing us to be able to watch from afar. Due to time differences, I only got to watch the last races of the day, but they were awesome. It was a joy to watch such a tough, competitive group of sailors as assembled for the regatta. I ...

What he means is "when he gets around to it." So a "roundtoit" is a project that he just hasn't gotten to start yet due to time constraints. You can buy a "round to it" at certain party stores. It's a wooden coin with "to it" written on it -- hence, a round to it. So when one of your friends tells y...

Dear Mr. Dobbie: Y'all have it goin' on! And you're absolutely right that the numbers go up when people have more passion about a subject. And at the end of the day, that, in my opinion, is the answer to all Roy G. mooted regarding whether the voting is a reflection of democracy. The subject is flat...

Roy, Since you mentioned me by name in your most recent message, I thought I might reply, at least as it pertains to voting percentages. I appreciate that you chose not to bash the Good Ole USA too much in your post! I won’t address whether the current format of voting in the IOM class meets the d...

Roy, Yes, there has not been much activity on the US voting front. We are at 18%, alas. I assumed your polls were closed when you said that voting in NZL was 100% against affiliation. I didn't take into account "currently." I was looking at the post through the glasses of how US presidential electio...

Roy, Let’s look at what you’re saying (I have paraphrased a bit): 1) It’s likely that all US IOM sailors will have to spend $60 per year to join US Sailing. Me: If such is the case, and all US IOM sailors have to join, will they still have to join AMYA? Under your scenario, the AMYA will have ...

Correct Roy, it's $60 to join US Sailing. What you are saying is that it is possilbe that US Sailing could require all R/C sailors in the United States to join US Sailing in order to allow the US IOM Nationals. Is that possible? Sure, anything is possible (it's possible I could be elected president ...

As regards the source of revenue the IOM class represents in the US if the dynamic in the USA changes between AMYA and US Sailing, and rather than the AMYA represent us, it becomes mandatory that each person at the Nationals be a US Sailing member, assuming 30 people have to join (many people are al...

Mr. Clifton wrote a position paper regarding the affiliation of IOMICA with ISAF directly, stating that for a variety of reasons, he believes that the RSD route is superior to direct affiliation by IOMICA. Mr. Jan Dejmo -- who has posted on this thread and besides being one of the founding fathers o...

I really don't see any significant downside to IOM's affiliation with ISAF. It is waiving our entry fee of 1,000 GBP, the annual fee for the whole class is equivalent to the purchase of one RMG winch in USD, and the one time tax on a new boat is, in Val's terms, the cost of a small pulley (or a 24 p...

I believe I was the last person to comment on the costs to hold a WC, and the point of my post was that the cost/risk to the organizers is huge. From what little I know, the judges are a big part of the expense. So what to do? I agree wholeheartedly that it's better to work from the inside than out....

Anders, In March each year we have a regatta in Dallas, Texas USA called the Blow Out, as March is generally the windiest time of year here. This year's edition was a mess with no wind, but last year, it blew hard. David Eldridge and his buddies took some good video of the races with the boats in #3...

Parallel fins

I know nothing of boat design, but I was curious why parallel keel fins are preferred (with the exception of Bantock's double taper design) over nearly any other design? Is there a performance advantage to be gained, ie ability to make the fin narrower (6% fins seem to be the rage)? Thanks. Brig North

Having been around attorneys too much (!), I can see Roy's points regarding the IP of the IOM class. It appears to this layman that under certain circumstances, the IOM class could attempt to enforce its IP rights should another group try to use IOM IP to promote a competing class. The one thing I k...

The regatta has been expanded to three days this year in an effort to maximize the probability that we will have at least ...
