If the intention was to ask permition, it was hidden well. I am very much against this initiative, I can not see what the IOM can benifit from this, to me the boat i completly different. What is the point in having a class which is a "guinny pig" for the IOM class. I am not in favour of sencouring t...

In Norway we had 30 skippers in one race and had 6 going up and six going down. I thing that most skippers felt it was easier to get back in the A- fleet after going down. In a two heat race ther are bigger risk to sail every race due to there are more skippers going down. As long as the organizer c...

This issue has been discussed before. 1. Marblehead draft, The marblehead doesn't have restrictions on hull dept which for an IOM is 60 mm. Not all M's has a keel at maximum draft which is if I remember right 770 mm. 2. It is more or less impossible to measure draft without a tank on an iom whithout...

The method described requires as Anders states that the wateline are known. This is no problem to solve, use a watertank during initial measurement and record the FF (Freeboard Forwardand) and FA (freeboard aft) as in big boat measurement. One of the arguments against water tank measurement was accu...

The Texalium doesn't enhance the performance of a boat, only the look of it. So for the sake of competiveness I hav no problems in accepting the Texalium as material. However the result will be that it is legal to use any legal material in combination with glass or maybe as an substitition for glass...

Basically Texalium should never have been approved used under the current rules at all. We are forced in a direction by builders who, on purpose or not, has interpreted the rule wrong. A similiar issue was the 20mm piece of string in the Black Magic sails which was deemed not legal. If you are a ama...

WC and EC in the future
I think it is best to open a new tread about the format of WC and EC. Is the WC and EC events grown too big to handle by the event organizers? -How many days should we and the organizers use to participate and organize such an event. -Are the excpectance to the event too high?? -What is the minimum ...

Course lay out: In Norway we sail only on an upwind downwind course. Start finish line in the middle, windward mark, with an offset mark min 8 meter away, four boatlength for each mark. This is to separate the downwind boats from beating boats to the uppwind mark. The leeward mark is a gate also 8 b...

Hi Every radio basically works fine. What to consider is what the rest in your club uses, we in NMS in Norway uses different radios but most Multiplex and Graupners. I realize that it is impossible to permit averything that is in common use today. My point is that this is not an development class such as the Marblehead, The basic idea is oposit of what the Marblehead is, and why? Yes to keep it cheap and simple. Many of us here seems to forget that basic princip...

If this system gives an perfomance advance or not is not the question. We are moving away from the basic idea, "keep it simple, as simple as possible, but no simpler " as Albert Einsein once said. We must be very careful on how this comes out. If we are going to vote on every issue like this, we wil...

One of the main ideas behind the IOM is simplicity and low cost. The introduction to the rules also state that : "The rules in Part II and III are closed class rules which means that anything not specifically permitted is prohibited." I can not find that oval holes in the deck is permitted. The prob...

The introduction of gauges also requires a rulechange, that describes the measuring gauge. This will restrict the design of the hull by the gau...
