Indeed. But there is a rule which says "the alignment of the swivel ... shall be controlled only by the rigging tension", and it would reasonably be the job of this committee to decide if this or any other rule allows or forbids oblong holes.
Hi Lester, Please explain h...

I agree with you completely there Andy, and I think based on that, builders should seek advice much more often from the TechSC or whoever before introducing these gimmicks, as IOMICA advice suggests. This is going to happen on a cold day in hell; what's the old saw: "ask permission, seek denial"? I...

I don't have any doubt that the swivel attached at the bottom of the hull is "legal"; the method follows all the prescriptions of the rule, only it plays fast and loose with the conventional notions that may have been "assumed" by the language of the rules. If you really want to insist that what is ...

Besides being of dubious, imaginary or trifling utility, this "swivel down the hole" stuff is, as Ole Peder pointed out, an egregious example of playing the loopholes. I, for one, would favor a change in the rules that explicitly requires the moving parts of jib swivel/attachment to be entirely abov...

And now for my personal feedback Change A.5.1 as noted, to clarify version of ERS to be used: These class rules shall be read in conjunction with the ERS {delete period/full stop and add} "2001-2004." If this is a problem, then I believe conflicts between our Class Rules and the current ERS (2005-20...

IMHO, Texalium boats, especially the Cockatoos which only have Texalium decks, should be allowed to compete, period end of story. Texalium, or any of its brethren, by themselves, do not confer any special properties to any boat. Hear, hear! Finally, a little sanity. It's pretty pathetic how the IOM...

I'm not trying to be impertinent, but why is equipment inspection variable, in theory? I understand that, in practice, there are bound to be varying degrees of formality/rigor, depending on the motivation of the race direction, the "level" of the competition, number of competitors, etc. But what's w...

As far as I can tell, by searching on ISAF, IOMICA and Google, there is no Event Measurement Form; perhaps that led to my confusion when posting the reply to Steve Landeau's post quoted previously. While this is probably as simple as a check of the items in Section C of the Class Rules, it might hel...

Mast pre-bend template
I'm getting ready to build my first rig, and am up against mast pre-bend. It would be useful to have a template. I realize that the "proper" bend depends to some extent on the cut of the particular mainsail being fitted, and on various other choices, such as spreader mounting height, shroud configur...

ACK! Sorry about the errors in the spreadsheet. It has a big note pointing to the 20 mm dimension saying "important ...

I will freely admit that I'm no rules expert, but think about this: if a windward boat is taking advantage, and the leeward skipper does not luff up the offender or hail to keep clear (that is, take action to assert her/his rights), then how is the umpire to determine that advantage has, indeed, bee...

Lime is known here (US of God Bless America) as Basswood, other places as Linden, and is very common. Because it has virtually no visible pores, very little color variation or grain, and it is very uniform in density, it's favored for building architectural models and the like. Woodworkers in the ag...

Think about full-size boats with genoa jibs: it's an advantage aerodynamically to actually have the jib overlap the main; the idea is that the two sails are acting as a single airfoil, with a slot that improves performance of both. Unfortunately, the genoa is the enemy of lightning-fast tacking, and...

E.3.1 stipulates that "Materials shall not be of density higher than lead" but it does not specify what materials are permitted.
