Re: anti-bickering sugggestion

We have a rule to deal with this bickering behaviour. R2. A R 2 DSQ is nondropable and so has much more weight that an additional penalty turn. Bickering is no answer. If you are protested and 'at fault' do your turn, - it helps to let the other guy know that you are accepting the penalty as it may ...

Re: hailing boats over early under the 2013-16 rules

The best suggestion I have seen is to use RECALL number, RECALL number. RECALL is the word used in the rule for individual recalls. But that still does not address what to do for a similar string of numbers hailed by the RC at the finish line for a recorder to write down. I have promoted (to the poi...

The ISAF Rules Q&A for 2013 - 2016 RRS is now available.

For you rules junkies - The ISAF Rules Q&A for 2013 - 2016 RRS is now available. http://www.sailing.org/tools/documents/QABookletFebruary182013-%5B14443%5D.pdf Note that the 2009-2012 Q&A is no longer valid and the contents deleted - presumably because the new RRS has clarified those issues. Re: New RRS E6.6 - no redress for entanglement any more...

Hi Lester, I think it is reasonable to read it that way, because the reference to being 'disabled' is written in the present tense. Right now I am disabled due to your action - I am retiring because 'right now' I am disabled. To me, that meets the words of the rule and the definition. One way to get...

Re: New RRS E6.6 - no redress for entanglement any more...

It is interesting that the rule makers’ background paper says that they are trying to align Appendix E with R 62. Under big boat rules, in a request for redress, the boat does not have to retire to request redress – only that her possibility that her score may have been made worse . Appendix E is mu...

HI Lester

should have added---

the fact that two or three boats passed you is not why you are requesting redress - it demonstrates that you were disadvantaged and to what extent.

Re: New RRS E6.6 - no redress for entanglement any more...

Hi Lester, The reason for you retiring is not relevant - just the facts - you were on S and were hit by P and became disabled - You protested P and called that you were retiring whilst still disabled. Mental state or motivation are not factors!!! (And I know that you know about the protest...

Re: New RRS E6.6 - no redress for entanglement any more...

Hi Lester, The safest way is to call that you are retiring while still 'disabled'. That way you should have a valid claim based if the other boat is found 'at fault'. But once you become free, you may have left it too late. But also, you also have to comply with the protest requirements ie make a va...

If he has a personal number of 100, then under the new RRS, his sail should display 0.

He should do nothing. He should wait until told by the Race officer what prefix/suffix to add.

Re: The new ISAF RRS 2013-2016 are out

I am not sure what you are getting at. It makes sense to me. The position of the single digit is to allow either or both of a prefix and/or a suffix Say your hull number is 205, then under E8.b.3, your sail number will be 5. But at the regatta, there is a conflict with another boat, so the RD asks y...

The way I read it, yes. - but don't put the number on your sail - wait until the RD at a regatta asks you to do it - and make it removable.

Re: The new ISAF RRS 2013-2016 are out

The AUS National championship is under way right now and is the first major event held under the new 2013-2016 RRS. They have an SI that overrides E8.b.3 to allow existing sails to use the leading zero. So they are overriding E8 as it relates to the class rules. A few days ago I prepared a document ...

Re: The new ISAF RRS 2013-2016 are out

Besides, are we really allowed to change identification on sails by SI ? As appendix G can't be changed... As far as I know, Appendix E can be changed by SIs, including E8. Hi Lester, The problem with use of the SI to nullify the drop leading zero is that it would have to be in the SI of every rega...

Re: The new ISAF RRS 2013-2016 are out

Hi Olivier, I think you are going in the wrong direction. To me, the hail is not the issue. Dropping the leading zero is what leads to possible confusion. The new hailing change and eliminate leading zero can give deux trois or two three (is that 23 or 2 and 3) Cancel the the new hail but eliminate ...

Re: The new ISAF RRS 2013-2016 are out

Hi Robert, not to quibble, but the IOM class rule refers to RRS Appendix G and as modified in Appendix E and has the same effect as if it were a class rule when completing the rig measurement form. So the new Appendix E creates the possible problems under discussion. The challenge is 'how to fix it'...

Re: Size of a buoy

Hi Bob, I am not aware of any specific rule. Size is not the only consideration. The new Appendix E sets the default that the start and finish lines lie on the course side of the marks. That suggests a mark needs to float upright, and have vertical sides to remove ambiguity over the location of the ...

Re: Mast measurements

The measure is to the bottom of the upper bands, and to the top of the lower band. There is no specific measurement for the placement of the gooseneck. The issue is that the main tack cannot come below the top of the lower band. So it would not make sense to mount the gooseneck above the band as you...

R 61.1.a.3 is new. If a boat misses a mark and so fails to sail the course, now you SHALL protest a boat before she finishes or as soon as possible after she finishes. This allows you to protest the boat while it is still racing with out yourself being accused of giving outside help. You still don't...

These are the main changes I have noticed that may affect RC sailing.. The definition of Mark Room has changed. Need to research more to understand if any change of intent. Hi Simon, This has been discussed before but never resolved to my satisfaction. new material based on wood
