I got the the plans at http://www.amya.org/us1mcons.html for a one meter boat call Zipper, and I was wondering if anyone have tryed to build this design and is the right size plan on the net because I start to build one and It looks very small, long and thin... is this boat an IOM?? is it a good boat ??? (It looks fast)...

Thanks...

Hi, Francisco-

The Zipper is NOT an IOM, and would not be suitable for the class. It is a US One Meter, which is a class sailed almost exclusively in the USA and North America. It is very narrow, and displaces only about 2.7 kilos.

Fast...but not an IOM!

Hi, Eke

I start the boat so I'll try to finish it to see the results... I'm new with this hobby and I have no much experience in Radio control Yachts so I was wondering wich design or boat should I build to start with a real IOM...

Hi Francisco,

Why not try a proved IOM design which is readily able to be self built, such as the Nimbus II or the Kite. Their designs are available on the sailsetc.com site or there is a free design which unfortunately does not go into the exact building details called the Triple Crown. Details are available on www. mya-uk.org.uk The NimbusII design will give an absolute beginner a better start as it has quite detailed drawings. The Kite ia a bit more advanced.

Good Luck

Cheers

Ralph

Note that the downloadable Zipper plans are not really right. The shadows are a bit off. If you want to build one of these then I would go directly to the US1M class secretary and get them from him, $3.00 USD. There is a new Zipper out now called the Zipper III. Quite a different boat.

Check out this web page to see one being molded with a relatively new way here in the USA. It's called the German Rubber method being that one of the AMYA skippers girlfriend if from Germany and she showed a club here how to do it.

Go to our Club web site at http://ghmyc.org/ . Then go to the 'Articles, Newsletters, Regatta Results' link. Some other interesting things there.
