It's certainly difficult to adapt bandwith, but please add results of each race, not only overall results on your website, we have absolutely no informations.

Video is great when it works, but if it doesn't, with nothing else available, it's just frustrating.

Ok maybe we should abort the video aspect seeing how bad it is for you, no problem I will speak to the operators tomorrow.

I guess I'll speak in defence of the video feed.

I think too many have some very high expectations of the Internet and its services. It gets better all the time but it is very much not seamless. So, particularly when a bunch of us sit on the video as much as possible, capacity gets pushed and sometimes it drops.

I watched, off and on, a good portion of the morning here (afternoon there) and only suffered a couple of drops and it was simply a matter of a few clicks and I had the connection re-established and on it went.

The organizers are trying to give us some flavour of how it is going and I think it is likely time that we cut them a bit of slack and enjoy what we do get.

Having to factor in limitless bandwidth for live video and online, minute by minute scoring should not have to be a part of organizing these events. Those of us that couldn't/wouldn't/didn't choose to enter and attend in person should sit back and enjoy the glimpses we do get.

As I said, out here among the coastal islands of Western Canada, the service has been not bad at all. I wish it was better, I wish there was some commentary to let me know a little more about what is going on, I wish I could see the score sheet after every race, etc., etc.

But I also wish I was there and that isn't happening so I'm pretty happy to get what I get.

Thanks to the organizers for the coverage and postings.

Please don't shut it down.

Video was fine also in the evening, and thank you also for last results in line, with race by race results. http://www.sailbarbados.com/events/iom/iom_results.pdf

My post below is certainly not a request to stop video, I was asking that kind of results, so everyone can see results of competitors there.

Thanks for your work until now !

I am indeed happy that you are now pleased with the coverage of the event, this is an unknow zone for us as yesterday alone we had over 4,500 hundred viewers for 20 mins or more, so yes there will be hiccups but rest assured that they are not intentional and that they will be sorted as soon as they can be sorted.

FYI Denis M the reason for the problems had nothing to do with the event organisers but rather to do with the service from the Internet provider.

Stop for a moment and consider the number of issues of putting on an event of this size and this type but also then to want to go out on a limb and attempt to offer live video streaming gratis to those at home who would not or could not make the trip, it would have been a lot easier not to have attempted to provide you with live streaming but we have done our best and from my information the video streaming is pleasing to many more than it is not pleasing to.

Sit back and ENJOY the event compliments of the IOM BARBADOS WORLDS 2009 COMMITTEE.

I think these guys are doing a great job. I have been sitting with the camera man taking some pictures and you should see where he is sitting. I just go and stay there for one fleet, but he stays for the whole day. I guess is the same with all the people that is behind him in the distribution of the signal. So I just want to thank them the huge work they are doing.

I have also heard that the organizers have received some, let us say, not very polite e mails complying because they couldn’t see the video properly and that is something that as a class we can not afford. Unfortunately an IOM World or Continental Championship is not an Olympic games so there are not many countries and clubs interested in organizing one, so we have to take care of the very few that take that decision, help them with a constructive critic and thank them for their effort.

When the championship finish we have to make conclusions to try to improve the next event.

Moreover most of you should be working at the time of the races start, so what are you doing wasting your time with this pornographic videos of little boats racing, instead doing your shopping through internet, taking care of your current account or going to the cafeteria to have a coffee with your friends.

Alfonso, Thanks very much as you know there is much effort that goes into putting on a program such as this one, to me if the only ones that are fussing are those not here and all the complaint is about is having to reset the video streaming with this being the case I would conclude that there are more positives than negatives and the positives are coming from those that are attending the event, we are indeed happy to have all of you here to enjoy our beautiful island our home Barbados.

Totally agree

Yes we will, and I am sure there will be a lot more positives than negative aspects on Barbados organizing commitee actions !

Yes, the first day the video feed wasn't perfect but that has been resolved and allthough the quality isn't HD it's by far the best coverage of an int. Regatta to date.

They have got some photos online. :)

The organizers have also heard what people are saying and have started listing the results heat by heat.

What more do you want? :x

Anybody complaining about this event should consider, that we have not got a host of venues fighting top hold an int. IOM race. We should be thankfull, that organizers such as Peter Gilkes give time and effort to get a weeks racing of the ground and are prepared to take the considerable financial risk behind this.

Nigel you have summed it up perfectly. We didnt ask Barbados to put n an event for us, it was their idea and that any group of people are prepared to take on such an organisational task and risk trying something new in the way of live coverage is just great. That the video was a bit problematical at first was part of the learning curve that Peter Gilks and his team have been climbing fast. Maybe the new events VP can get some feedback from Barbados, ready to prime the organisers of the next event. Beats going cold turkey anytime!

I have just been informed by Peter Gilkes that the closing ceremony will be video streamed as well even it was not originally planned.

I am excited to see my CRO friends on podium !!

Thanks to Peter Gilkes and his team for all effort on organizing such a great Championship!

I just finished watching the closing ceremonies and it was really nice to get to see that part of the event as well.

Congratulations to the winners but mostly congratulations to everyone who had a part in making it happen. A lot of work in a fairly short time and what appears to me to be a great event has come from those efforts.

It is with tremendous pride that I say thanks to each and everyone one of you who supported a small Nation Barbados with the hosting of this IOM BARBADOS WORLDS EVENT 2009.

It was a well worthwhile exercise and despite our challenges I think most if not all the competitors will leave Barbados saying it was worth the trip to take part.

In our effort to please as many as we could please, after the final race today I received an email from Robert asking if it was likely to have the closing ceremony sent by live webstream so that they could watch it in Croatia after some discussion with the operators and for a fee they decided that they would work later to send the feed of the closing ceremony for all those wishing to view this presentation, this is an example of the extent of our willingness to make this event the success that it was.

My very best wishes goes out to all those IOM sailors those that travelled to Barbados or stayed at home and watched the event from their armchairs, to all the winners, to all the helpers, to all the officials and judges in particular Jeff Bryerley without whose guidance and help we would not have gone ahead with hosting this event and most of all to our NEW IOM WORLD CHAMPION 2009 Jelaciv, Zvonko and to everyone who helped make this the wonderful event that it was.

Thank you all
Peter

Are there any plans to make a video of the event available for those of us who didn't go?

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear about the 'video'. I have an insomniac husband who sits up for hours watching TV until he can manage to fall asleep. He has a collection of sailing videos and DVDs, such as the IOM Worlds in Australia, m class Worlds in Fleetwood, Ms in Ravenna, IOMs in Spain to name but a few and is always looking for new ones. So my re-phrased question is, will there be a DVD of this event available to buy at some point? Yes I know its on the computer but did I mention that he is the ultimate technophobe (though he manages the DVD player, which I have never mastered) and refuses absolutely to learn how to even turn on the computer. Any disks or links to buy some new ones would be very welcome!

Which boat is this?

I was looking at the Barbados images

http://www.sailbarbados.com/events/iom/ ... index.html

Looking at the photo 3 across and 5 down... CRO 82.

The results lists show this boat as a Topiko, but the photo shows chines like a Pikanto.

From looking at the views as per this site it would appear that THE IOM BARBADOS WORLDS 2009 did in fact a great deal of excitement and interest with stats of 9117 views it stands head and shoulders above many other topics, hence our need to do the IOM BARBADOS WORLDS 2009 right and to do it well.

Certainly one of the real stars of the event other than the sailing and the parties was the Live Video Streaming that turned out to be a massive hit and was commented on from around the world as the most enterprising and worthy development for an IOM Worlds sailing event, and I would highly suggest that all future events consider making this part of their standard operating procedure, it is well worth the effort, right down to the closing ceremony was shown live as it happened, at Zoran and Roberts very special request.

We will shortly have a complete report compiled, for comment and for future reference with regards to our findings on hosting an IOM WORLDS event.
