Re: IOM ONE DESIGN CLASS
It's not at all surprising there are no responses, all people seem to want to do is change nothing, which ultimately will act against the IOM class. I see the IOM situation as follows: - It's a great boat to sail and we have a great chance to convert new sailors from DF95s to the class. - This oppor...

Re: Dubious racing tactics?
hitting a stbd boat and getting around the mark and doing a penalty is very bad sportsmanship Thanks John, frankly if anyone deliberately hit my boat to try and gain advantage I would pack up and go home, and I would not dream of doing that, the purpose of my post was to try and draw out whether pe...

Dubious racing tactics?
Newcomer to IOM now getting to grips with rig setup and the racing rules. I have been stranded on a number of occasions at the windward buoy when approaching on port tack with a good line to the buoy, when I have been faced with an armada on starboard coming across preventing me from getting around ...

Re: Spar form/size
Hi Colin, My Shiraz uses 11mm mast and it seems strong enough, I think as ever its not just size or even wall thickness, there are endless grades of Ali which confuse things. Most folk only seem to like grooved masts on no2 and 3 rigs, no doubt an expert will be along at some point to explain why! M...

Titan Winch anyone?
Anyone got any experience of the Titan Tempest winch and in particular how it compares to the RMG? They look very promising on paper.......

TS2 for sale
Now I have the Shiraz, lack of space means I have to part with the TS2. The boat comes with all three rigs and a stand, the top rig has brand new sails. Am looking for £350, boat is complete and needs only RX and batteries (plus of course your TX!) (RMG winch and Hitec rudder servo included) I am si...

Re: MX14 after Widget
Hi Rob, Just because this or any other boat isnt featured high in results is probably only an indication that none of the top skippers sail one! It's a conundrum because like most sports, the skipper and boat setup will make a far bigger difference than the hardware involved, yet we try and convince...

RMG Winch set up....
This may be of help to some folk, many at my local club are not keen of the programmable aspect of the RMG as it is viewed this days as largely unnecessary since the built in EPA adjustment on modern TX's is far easier to work with. On my TS2 the winch overides my TX which I find really annoying so ...

Cant help as such, but there is another MX14 in the Eastbourne club which even if not being sailed will be in the clubhouse which you could have a look at. I will be there first thing, will pop along and say hello.........

Re: Rudder servo strength
Just an update I have purchased a Hitec HS-5495BH and tried it in my elderly TS2. Whilst it appeared to work fine, there was a small amount of interference with the RMG winch as a result of which I have gone back to my trusty HB325 for the time being. RMG recommend only a standard non digital servo,...

Re: Drum winch at lowish price
Colin,
Have a look at the Titan winches, they might just fit the bill. A bit more than your initial budget but cheaper than an RMG and specs look very workable.

Re: which mailsail link to mast?
prevents it from sliding around the mast. With rings or ties, the luff can slide around the side of the mast and when that happens, the draft of the sail changes and become much flatter as the luff curve is no longer following the shape of the mast. Exactly what have noticed, thanks John My longer ...

which mailsail link to mast?
Seems to me there are 3 options offered:
Eyelet/Luff rings
Grooved mast with sliders
Wire jack stay
Are there any real benefits with any of these or is it just personal choice?

Fist sail of the TS2 yesterday with the guys at Eastbourne. Don't think the light and shifting winds were especially suitable for the TS2, but in heavy weat...

Re: Rudder servo strength
Just one thing to watch out for on Digital servos is that current drain can be a lot more:
HB 425 - 180 mah operating no load
HS 5485 - 500mah operating no load
Not an issue for battery capacity but pre 2013 RMG winches only have a 1 amp BEC which may not be enough for a digital servo under load.

This is an IOM site -- is it really appropriate to discuss Dragon Boats here. Yes absolutely. Re: Rudder servo strength
Colin in the Shiraz I have ordered they fit an HB325 which has 3kg.cm of torque - I can only assume the builders have experience to suggest that this servo is sufficient: http://www.servoshop.co.uk/index.php?pid=HITHS325HB&area=Servo That said there is no reason why a more powerful servo shouldn't b...

I use 1mm rigid copper wire as use in household electrical fixed wiring, and solder them to the cells, use as big a soldering iron as you can to make the joint quickly without overheating and damaging the cells. www.7dayshop.com do some "good to go" cells which are well priced and self discharge muc...

Re: RMG winch set up with Spektrum DX6i
Thanks John, just tried the spektrum and it links really quickly so hopefully it will be OK. Don't know why the RMG is still programable when virtually all TXs have that facility these days.
Will be getting the boat in a couple of weeks so will have a go then.

RMG winch set up with Spektrum DX6i
I have bought a TS2 with RMG winch and will need to set up the RMG winch with the DX6i. Have had a look at the RMG set up page and it looks a bit confusing, and also mentions problems with 2.4 ghz outfits not binding quickly enough. Any hints or tips to the set up of the RMG with the Spektrum TX?

Re: Radio pot, antenna routing
I guess the easy way is to simply run the aerial as best you can then do a range check with the boat at the furthest distance you are likely to use. Most TX's have a range check function that reduces the TX power for test purposes. It will probably be fine but this check will give you confidence tha...

After my aborted attempt to get started with the Spirit (glad its now on the water though) I am about to retire and from Sept will have time to start IOM sailing at Eastbourne.
