Re: What batteries are people using?
Barry i can't agree there on those voltages.Fully charged NiMh come off the charger at 11.5v and are at under 11v in short order,i've never seen a pack at over 12v.That LiPo will stay over 12v for a considerable amount of time, the LiPo has fantastic run time without question but you need to install ...

Re: What batteries are people using?
As far as the Tx goes,i've read that most 8 cell module based radios actually use 5v to operate so the higher voltage is dissapated in heat, hence we see radios with 4 cells. So you can see where a lipo at 12.6v could be a bit much, however an A123 3 cell batt is the ticket.Several people use LiPo with...

Re: What batteries are people using?
Dave,a 2s LiPo 8.4v will smoke a 6v rudder servo and the short will be going back to the batt not good ,there are Hi Voltage servos available BUT EXPENSIVE.

Re: What batteries are people using?
900mah LiPo gives 4hrs+ sailing time.Boat uses 185mah per hr at flat out no1 rig weather using a RMG.How do i know i installed a watt meter.Modern LiPo's can be charged at 5C that's 12min provided you have a proper balance charger,do it all wrong and you'll watch your boat or worst yet your house bu...

Having read through this discussion,i called Penny who was the main person behind the organization of the event here in 2009.She tells me that the BSA books are with the auditor at the moment, when she gets them back she should be able to extract the IOM budget and we'll see if we can get it out ther...

I agree with Roy that we should try to host the other forums on here,as not many people post on here it might be evidence that people surf on other sites.IOM sailing is a minority within a minority of a sport and this should be the centre of all things IOM making us one big happy family.Happy New Ye...

Re: Barbados IOM regatta 2010
I should mention that in 2010 the ocean part of this regatta we shall be sailing from the M/V Buccaneer(parrot included) as we did in 2008 indeed very unique.Everybody will board in the morning and we shall be sailing to a new venue, where the waves will be on the bow rather than on the beam with cl...

Hi Nigel, the regatta dates to some degree are set bearing in mind it's off season so Flights and accomadation are cheaper at that time of year and easier to find.Basically you can find from a guest house up to a 5 star hotel on this island, when the NOR is released it will have some suggestions but t...

We are declaring the dates of this regatta early so as to ficilitate early holiday arrangements for those attending. It will be back to our original format of two regattas one in the ocean and one at our lake having prizes for the indivisual regattas, and the scores combined for an overall. The dates ...

LiFePO4 could this be the new wave in boat batts
Found this on the web this morning, with my limited knowledge on anything that shocks burns or explodes ,maybe the experts can tune in.What i've read is they seem to be similar in current and weight than LiPo,but not prone to explode(rated safe as MiMh and Nicad). Also very cheap www.batteryspace.com ...
