Re: New Championship Regulations?
I updated the CCR's after the Barbados AGM and included all the passed items from that AGM as well as the passed items from the prior 3 AGM's, as they had not been included. I put them onto the FTP site, but can't check them anymore because the FTP site has been blocked to the general membership. I ...

Hi Des sorry if my post was unclear: I'm not in favor of removing from the NCA's the task of keeping track of who their members are - I am in favor of replacing the present "electoral college" style of voting with a "one owner = one vote" system. Who is eligible to vote in either system falls within...

Barry - you are correct: somewhere a system needs to be in place to insure that all properly registered owners are allowed to vote. Presently, that is the task of the NCA's. NCA's that charge annual fees can rather easily determine who are active members - NCA's that do not have an annual "update" o...

To inject some clarification to this discussion: The original Class Rules allowed a Continental Championship Regatta in non WC years, but only Europe was defined as a continent. The CR changes passed in the 2008 AGM were authored by VCEvents and were designed to include all the land masses defined b...

IMHO, if we move to a "one owner = one vote" system, NCA's will still have plenty to do in terms of organizing their national regattas and championships, maintaining owner lists, publicity, growth, fund raising, communication, etc. If we change over to this type of voting, the only work item removed...

You can rest assured that I read everything I can find! I do not think the prospect of potentially saving 1000 GBP is a compelling reason to forge ahead with this much opposition. There is no reason to believe that ISAF's waiving the application fee is a limited time offer. If IOMICA had to spend 10...

I echo RoyL's comments - IMHO, right now, win or lose, there will be hard feelings concerning either the process and/or outcome of this vote. If we table the issue 'till the next ISAF meeting, what's the harm? Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and the class can move forward with more unanimity and...

For the record, my comments are not meant as "sour grapes" for not being elected and are not meant to disparage Alphonso. I feel a bit responsible, since I (as VC Events) drafted the resolution and assured the class that constructive and open discussion would precede any EXEC action. I was present f...

Can you share with the general membership the text of the proposition upon which we are voting? Is the question whether or not to join ISAF or whether or not to join ISAF right now? The difference is significant because presently, there are a lot of questions that cannot be answered. Many involve is...

RoyL Since IOMICA has not announced the date of the AGM and any resolutions have to be received 10 weeks in advance of said meeting, we don't seem to have to make any decisions in a few weeks if the ISAF issue is to be voted upon at the 2010 AGM. The EXEC has the right to call a "Special" meeting wi...

Ken As far as I know, the Class Championship Regulations were composed by the originators of the class along with the Constitution and Regulations and thus were "in place" when we came into being. Occasional amendments to them have been voted upon by the membership. Again, to my knowledge, Appendix ...

Alphonso, please don't take my comments as some sort of campaigning ploy. When you stand for re-election in 2010 (as you have said you would), the candidates can start campaigning. "...the Exec has not taken any decision about ISAF, we just did what the owners asked us to do in the last AGM and we h...

In all fairness and based upon a number of years on an EXEC that did not utilize the secretary, I think Barry is doing a fine job of communicating what the EXEC decides with the general membership. These are not things he is coming up with himself but reflect the business of the entire EXEC, so plea...

Barry Not to nitpick, but the per boat fee is defined in the "ISAF International and Recognized Class Entry Guidelines" and is clearly not fixed per hull, but instead is determined to be 0.4% of the price of the boat (less sails) in GBP, unless a different arrangement has been negotiated as a condit...

Hi Ken I appreciate your (and AUS's) concern, but as you might expect, I'm out of the loop on this issue. The comments posted below came from my work on this issue prior to the ballot re-count and in no way represent anything official from IOMICA EXEC. I am not included in their discussions on this ...

Having recently investigated arguments for and against joining ISAF, Naviga, and standing independently, I feel that joining ISAF gives IOMICA more benefits and fewer liabilities than the other 2 options. Positive points are: input on our rules (probably) representation on whatever RSD mutates into ...

Just a few points from our class documents regarding Lester's post below. A bit wordy so Lester, do keep up (ha)! 1) "...disenfranchise those IOM owners who enjoyed club racing yet who did not have, and their club did not require, valid boat certificates." IOM Class Rules, Section B – Boat Eligibi...

Perhaps the concepts of one owner = one vote and the issue of registered v. certificated owners could be decided upon by the class? It would be interesting to see how many members feel that this might be something that should be changed rather than have a few people simply say "it's not broken, don'...

Uniform date for the AGM
Here is another topic for discussion - should we have the AGM at the same time each year? Doing so would standardize the dates for submission of proposals, setting the agenda, and determining voting strength and prevent some of the last minute problems we had in 2008 regarding deadlines. For example...
