Wow, this is really a topic that generates a lot more heat than light. If you look back at this discussion, you will see that the issue of the legality of 2.4 gig equipment began as a interesting, almost academic discussion. After some back and forth the subject basically died out. I think the main ...

Just to complicate things a bit, there is a new generation of high power servos coming out from other manufactuers including JR and Futaba. There is also a HiTec "super servo" that is coming that has lots of power, speed and is standard size. Expected price is over $300 US. A problem with many of th...

For the past two plus years I have been VC Technical for IOMICA. I am currently standing for re-election and would be honored to continue to serve the class for a second term. During my tenure as VC Technical all class member inquiries were answered promptly; no boats or equipment were ruled illegal...

becsta: good sense and a rational worldview are always welcome. Yes, there sure has been an awful lot of fuss over a two box receiver and I am afraid most of it had little to do with the product itself. I have a feeling that if there wasn't a contested IOMICA election coming up this issue would have...

Respectfully, Andy, I do not have to "clarify" my "position" for you. I was trying to put an end to this "discussion" in a light hearted manner. It leads to the kind of bickering that does the IOM class no good. Obviousy, I have failed. Oh, and if you want to accuse me of being "discourteous", get t...

Hey Andy, when it comes down to it, I'm not sure if I really know all the things that are actually in "bondo" and I have a feeling I really don't want to know..... Also, I kinda don't think this subject is worth going into much further, unless you are aware of some guys who are actually planning on ...

Ain't life fun. From my understanding of the present state of the rules, fairing compounds (such as bondo) used for fairing or for minor repairs would be legal. However, building an entire boat out of bondo (if such a thing could be done) would probably not be legal. Of course now we are in the "how...

An interesting question. I don't think the interpretation clearly addresses the use of a big chunk of Bondo (auto body filler here in the US) to make a major change in hull shape or displacement. Practically, not very effective and more than a little brittle. Best way would seem to be to try the sha...

In looking back on this thread it seems to me that there is one thing everyone can agree upon---everyone wants to allow the use of 2.4 gig radios in the IOM Class. The only question then should be what is the best way to accomplish this goal. As I see it there are three approaches we can take. One w...

Henry: What you have raised is an interesting process question. I believe that in order to receive a formal IOMICA technical rule interpretation, all that has to happen is for a single NCA to make a request. Another (and I think the best) way to resolve a technical question is to have an NCA put up ...

US IOM Nationals
The United States IOM Nationals will be held in Long Island, New York on September 21 through September 23. As in the past, competitors from outside the US are always welcome. For those thinking of attending, there is also the Canadian Regionals in Kingston, Ontario the weekend before. A good tune-u...

Greg: Earlier on, in a more rational part of this discussion, I suggested that it might be sensible for an NCA to propose the elimination of the "one" receiver languge in the IOM rules. Never understood what advantage you could gain from having multiple receivers. I would certainly support such a cl...

We all see things differently. I stand by the account I wrote. For anyone who actually read and cares about any of this, all I can ask is that you re-read the posts by the many people below, remember how things used to be and then make up your own mind. In retrospect, however, I regret that by listi...

Marko: A simple thank you for bringing a little sanity to this "discussion". Your view that the Spektrum two box receiver is "one" receiver is shared by everyone I know. To me Lester is the one with the "ingenious" argument. Fact is, dual conversion receivers can be viewed as being two receivers on ...

Barry: I couldn't agree more with your post. This kind of bickering was exactly how things were before Greg Willis became IOMICA Chairman. Until now no one seriously thought that the Spektrum equipment was illegal for use in the IOM. If IOMICA makes the unilateral decision to ask the RSD/IOMICA Tech...

Andy, its hard for me to follow what you are suggesting. On the one hand you seem to accept the concept that the Executive and the Technical Committee should not take unilateral action. But then you suggest that the Technical Committee should "investigate the implications" of information or question...

I will gladly address this topic. First, and most important, the question at issue is not what Lester Gilbert or anyone else "thinks" is legal or illegal under the IOM Class Rules. Under our class governance system, it is a National Class Association's request for a formal technical interpetation th...

You can find a discussion of mast fittings in the general IOMICA forum. It is largely between Lester Gilbert and Andy Stevenson and a few other class members....

Just to correct the record. There were a number of people Greg Willis could have found to be IOMICA Secretary. Andy did volunteer, but it was Greg who decided to give the newcomer from the UK his chance to serve. And to his credit, Andy lived up to the chance he was given and has worked hard and dil...
