Re: HULL MATERIALS....3D Printing. Croatian Motion.
Sorry I have not read that forum for 2 weeks, and I was 3 pages behind ! ;) Thanks Lester and Robert for giving life to this forum ! I have now read it all, and if I am not wrong, we all agree on one point : - Not plain structures shouldn't be allowed. So this is already in rules. So no change neede...

Re: Which way for sheeting controls
Hi,
Usual way is to sheet in with stick towards you.
On some radio it's the only position where trim is efficient, so could be useful as well.
But there is no "rule" on this

Re: SHRS scoring system
Hi Harry In your message you raise all what you consider as positive points of SHRS, but you don't discuss negative points raised in previous discussion. I will try to balance your message by answering. Hi, With great interest I have read this thread concerning SHRS. The objections towards SHRS surp...

Bruce, in case you need something you have my email.
Another point, all informations on FB were on IOMICA website shortly before or after.

Re: Pultruded Carbon Spars
Sorry if I misunderstood, but your title can be confusing. I will try to answer. Dave, current preferred source for aluminium masts in IOMS is absolutely not a single source. Even if PG modelisme masts are recommended for current benchmark IOM, there are other suppliers, such as sailsetc for example...

Re: Pultruded Carbon Spars
Hello David, Achille, You are right, it's now possible to find carbon tubes at a lower (or similar) price than the alloy ones which are used by majority of IOMs today. But you compare the best alloys with poor quality carbon tubes. Just have a look at Sails etc website on this page http://www.sailse...

Re: 2016 EUROS
Hi Neil, As explained by Gordon, places are awarded by country, not by continent, and at IOMICA we had the choice of taking directly a 15th french competitor (who leaves 3 hours driving from Vitoria) or inviting a guest from a country without NCA to promote IOM there. We have chosen that latter, con...

Re: 2015 AGM - Topic: Change to Class Championship Rules
Hi Olivier, I am against the motion because it is unnecessary. We should only modify rules where there is a compelling reason. The existing rules provide adequate description. Modifying them only further complicates the rules and ties the hands of future regatta organizers. John I miss your argumen...

Re: 2015 AGM - Topic: Change to Class Championship Rules
I am quite surprised by what I read : John - You are against our proposal because you want to propose a system with just observers at a world championship, and DNE if there is a formal protest ! What a breakthrough ! Do you really believe it will help to get good racing ? All this to save 1 umpire/j...

Another one improved 10 places.
Nothing else to add.

Re: Simple Heat Racing System
The fact is , that from top 10 skippers all of them except Walsh and Matic just one race, sailed in A fleet. Now, imagine that was GOLDEN fleet in SHRS sistem. Just take a look on points difference. So, results from Thursday-Saturday ( 11 races , 2 discards) 1.GBR 42 - 37 points 2.CRO 35 - 39 3.FRA...

Re: Simple Heat Racing System
Hi Zvonko, You are right, it's not the place to discuss improvements of HMS. For the rest : 1/ In your proposal, you are right, all the races are important. As seeding races are. In fact half the championship is just seeding races. In my opinion it's not interesting racing as racing with competitors...

Re: Simple Heat Racing System
At a 5 or 6 day event I would be in favour of 3 seeding races. With no promotion there would be no hold ups for protests. Gordon Seeding races are not interesting as you don't race with competitors of similar level. (Same opinion on simple heat racing system proposed) I am in favour of HMS with 6 p...

Re: Redress...
Hi Bruce, Maybe a misunderstanding here, but in RRS as they are, "as a result retiring" can't be a decision of the competitor, for example because he is too far behind. It should be because of a failure, or because of assistance received. If your boat is still able to race you HAVE to continue. So t...

For now, not an official answer/interpretation from IRSA, but personal opinion from an International Judge, who was member of the Jury at 1 Metre Europeans 2010, 1 Metre Worlds 2011, Marblehead Worlds 2012. "A boat that becomes entangled is disabled as she is unable to continue in the heat. Rule E6....

Re: Redress...
Hi John, it is not MY definition of disabled, it was confirmed by IRSA racing comitee. You cannot decide to retire, it has to be the result of the incident. Change in SI is just applying previous rule. Nothing really new, and clearly more fair than losing a championship because being entangled twice...

Re: Redress...
In last revision of appendix E, a ROW boat can only get redress if he is disabled and then retire, because the damage due to entanglement prevents him to continue the race. It's not possible to get redress if the competitor DECIDES to retire. So in fact you NEVER gets redress, because with IOMs, inc...
