Spreader Patches

Hi All
I'm getting stretch marks on my sails where the the speaders hit the mainsail. I looked at the rules and find no mention of reinforcement being allowed. Can I put patches there? If the spreader poked a hole in the sail would I be allowed to patch the hole? Any comments please.
