Nigel,
Take a look at this site. It may be of some help.

Nigel,
An excellent site to start at is
www.ussailing.org. They have undertaken a review of a number of scoring programmes. They do rate Sailwave quite well, and it’s free!
Ralph Kelly at,
kelley_r_d@sbcglobal.net and Alan Hayes at
alan@radioyachting.com have both kindly let me have programmes, which appear excellent for coping with multiple heat events.

I posted an Excel program for scoring events held under a variety of event management formats, including HMS, in the Files section of this site. Sheet 2 has the text instructions on it's use. It has been used in a number of USA events and was used at the Worlds in Vancouver this year.

I made software for HRS that was used on IOM Europans in Portugal 1999, Marblehead Europeans 1997 and IOM Worlds 2001 in Croatia. You can download it for free on
www.scor.hr
Just go on Downloads - SCORing software on main menu.

Thanks everybody for the input!!!
I have actually used Sailwave for a race, but we only sailed in a single group. From my brief experience I don't think it covers sailing in multiple heats etc.
Zoran and Ralph, thanks very much for offering free software. I will see what I can make of it.
Cheers

Anyone interested in scoring HMS might find the following link of interest.
www.leevalleymyc.org.uk
On the downloads page is a file which when unzipped gives an Excel 97 workbook that is specifically designed to score HMS with the minimum of input.
A Word file of instructions is included.

Thanks Henry. We'll be using it, I understand, at the 2004 UK IOM Nationals. I also understand it has been well used at the 2003 Nationals, and various ranking and regional events in the UK.
